Vegan Village Society Launches Campaign to End Animal Tithing in Churches, Promotes Humane Bird Handling

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Vegan Village Society Uganda, under the leadership of Director Bob Rumanzi, has launched a campaign aimed at discouraging the practice of offering animals, particularly birds, as tithes in churches. The organization is advocating for the humane treatment of animals and educating Christians on ethical alternatives to animal tithing, such as monetary contributions.

The campaign, which has already reached several churches across Uganda, aims to address the common practice of tying up birds, such as chickens, to prevent them from escaping. In many cases, these animals are brought to church services as symbolic offerings but are often subjected to unnecessary distress due to improper handling.

As part of the campaign, Vegan Village Society members actively intervene in such situations. In a recent event, Bob Rumanzi and his team visited a Kagyera church of Uganda, where a Christian intended to offer a hen as a tithe. In a move to highlight the organization’s values, the team refunded the individual with money and took the bird to demonstrate proper handling techniques. The hen, previously destined for an uncertain future, is now residing comfortably at Vegan Village Society home as a living example of the care advocated by the society.

“Our mission is not just to stop animal tithing but to educate the public on the importance of humane treatment for all living beings,” said Bob Rumanzi. “As Christians, it is essential to show kindness and respect for God’s creatures, and there are many other ways to give thanks and support the church without causing harm to animals.”

The initiative has received widespread support from both church leaders and congregations, who appreciate the educational approach of the Vegan Village Society. The campaign also aligns with the organization’s broader efforts to promote veganism, animal welfare, and a cruelty-free lifestyle in Uganda.

Bob Rumanzi’s leadership in this campaign marks a significant step in the ongoing transformation of attitudes toward animals within the Christian community in Uganda. By combining traditional values with modern ethics, the Vegan Village Society hopes to inspire a new generation of compassionate and informed individuals.

The Society continues to visit churches across Uganda, encouraging the shift from animal offerings to monetary donations, and promoting practices that align with both humane treatment of animals and Christian values.
