A Vibrant Celebration of Veganism at Uganda’s Second Annual Vegan Festival!
On Saturday, December 14th, the Vegan Village Society Uganda hosted its Second Annual Vegan Festival at Kacereere Primary School playground. Building on the success of the inaugural festival, this year’s event was filled with innovative activities and vibrant participation, making it a truly memorable occasion.
Visiting Vegan Women Groups
Unlike last year, where the festival commenced with a brass band walk, this year’s festivities began with a tour of 17 vegan women groups engaged in vegetable gardening. These visits provided an opportunity to witness their remarkable work, exchange gardening techniques, and discuss ways to enhance their practices. The tour was a celebration of their dedication and a testament to the growing impact of vegan agriculture in the region.

Preparing Our Own Meals
One of the highlights of this year’s festival was the preparation of our own vegan meals. Unlike the previous festival, where catering services were hired, this year participants cooked together using skills learned from last year’s cooking demonstrations. This shift showcased how the community has embraced the knowledge gained, proving that plant-based cooking is both accessible and enjoyable.

Animal Welfare Workshop
The festival also included a three-hour workshop focused on animal welfare and promoting a plant-based lifestyle. This session provided invaluable insights into the ethical and environmental benefits of veganism, sparking meaningful discussions among attendees.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners – Plenty Food Netherlands, Vegan Organic Network, Lush Charity, and Thrive Philanthropy – for their generous support in making this event possible.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate the success of this year’s festival, we look to the future with renewed determination. We are calling on individuals and organizations to support our vegetable gardening project, which aims to expand access to vegan food alternatives across Uganda. Together, we can make ethical and plant-based living a reality for many more communities.
Let’s continue to grow the movement for a compassionate and sustainable future!
